University Heights was once known as West Lucas Township before the University and the hospital system started to expand west of the city. Two brothers, Lee and George Koser, predicted the expansion and started to purchase parcels of land. This land would later become University Heights. By 1929, Kinnick Stadium and the General Hospital were built bringing the expansion right by the neighborhood. By 1935, the City of University Heights was incorporated.
